The Value Of An Updated Resume

I am stuck in an ongoing cycle of sourcing.  Just when I am about to be worn down, I come across a resume that lists the candidate’s technical skills.  The first thing listed:

-MS Windows 98

Seriously…Win98?  My guess (hope) is that the candidate simply has overlooked that part of his resume for years.  That is about the only explanation because I certainly hope he isn’t touting his technical proficiency with an operating system from 13-14 years ago.

Well , it could be one of the explanations , but I think that some people get used to a programme and find it hard to change / update, which is not that bad!

Well, lots of people focus on work experience update and forgo the technical skills part. For me, as an HR specialist, this is bad impression.

The resume should be balanced and for sure upgraded when necessary. It is true that some people get used to a certain programme and just forget to upgrade it.

At least you know that if you ever get into a situation where all new OS fail and you only have one computer with Win98 on it, he’d be your guy for the job!

Well , I think that there is just no other explanation , but CV that is not changed lately , which is not bad , because it shows you that the person is serious and stayed a long time at the previous job!

In my opinion the resume is not that important as the interview , because resume can not really show you who the person really is – maybe someone else wrote his resume…

Haha, that’s hilarious, Windows 98 is like from the Middle Ages, nowadays! People should be more careful about their resumes, absolutely agree!

I think the individual should supplement Win 98 for computer skills. If that’s the last operating system he used, he won’t be of much service for a prospecting company.

Employers like to see education and one way to do that is to keep sharpening the skills. I like… and have enrolled in University of San Francisco’s online internet marketing program. It is something I will add to the resume.
