Oh to dream. I would truly enjoy Michigan footbal on that thing.
Continue ReadingWhen Photoshop is a Verb
At the risk of piling on about Katie Couric’s doctored photo in the news, I thought I would reference a prescient post regarding Work & Health. If you look at the article’s stats, perhaps Katie’s new anchor position is getting to her. Personally, I thought she looked great in the first picture. I’d write more but I am off to photoshop my own image before uploading it to this site.

After input from one of our readers (thank you Amitai), we have opened up our comments section so you no longer need to register to post a comment. Due to the high volume of daily spam we receive, we will have to continue to hold comments in moderation for the time being. We will approve the comments as we check to make sure they are not automated posts. At any rate, I hope the open comments section makes it easier to share your thoughts on The Hire Sense.

I kid you not, today is National Left-Handers Day. In case you are interested in learning way more than you care to, check out www.lefthandersday.com. Some quick trivia: Most left-handers draw figures facing to the right There is a high tendency in twins for one to be left-handed Left-handers adjust more readily to seeing underwater 4 of the 5 original designers of the Macintosh computer were left-handed And lastly, famous left-handers: Nicole Kidman Oprah Winfrey Jerry Seinfeld Angelina Jolie Tom Cruise Bob Dylan Keanu Reeves… Read More
Continue ReadingThe End of Trade Shows
As someone who has attended many trade shows in my career, I was most intrigued by this short note in a recent Sales & Marketing Management email (sorry, no link): How bad are trade shows? A new survey by transportation-services provider BostonCoach reveals 70 percent of attendees harbor some negative feelings about their experiences. From boring presentations to the hassle of travel, trade shows are getting low marks.”The results of this survey have important implications for organizations staging events,” says BostonCoach president and CEO Jonathan P. Danforth. “Producing a truly successful event requires focusing on activities and logistics that extend well beyond the show floor or a meeting room.” Here’s… Read More
Continue ReadingSales Development Plan
It’s Friday so time for a little housecleaning. We will be releasing our new Sales Development Plan on Monday. After a couple delays for last minute feedback, we have finalized it and will roll it out on Monday. The idea behind the tool is to give sales managers a document for tracking their salespeople’s skill development. Each plan will be customized to the salesperson and will identify areas for the sales manager to focus on when working with them. The scope of this project is increasing and we will add further functionality to the development plan in the fall. More to come on that topic later.
Continue ReadingDeath Networking?
The founder of monster.com has started a new social networking site for 50+ year olds. Eons.com is described this way: Instead of career and school sections, Eons.com has interactive games to build brain strength, news on entertainment and hobbies for older people, a personalized longevity calculator and tips to live longer. It also has a nationwide database of obituaries dating back to the 1930s to which people can add photos and comments. Continue ReadingTrivial, but funny
This should probably be an anecdote, but I found it entertaining. My general resume subscription pushed a resume to me of a candidate looking for a “House Manager” position. House Manager . . . never heard of such a position so my interest was piqued. Here’s what a House Manager does: Coordination of parties and other events Personal shopping & errands Handling of personal correspondence Care of house guests needs Keeping the family calendar & appointments Assist with travel plans Supervision of household staff Coordinate automobile maintenance Oversee maintenance & service to home Occasional driving Pet Care Household finances (I am a degreed accountant with many years accounting experience) They… Read More
Continue ReadingNot Thinking About Winter
I literally read this Selling Power article – Twin Cities Bring Twice the Fun – this morning while the temperature skyrocketed up into the 90s. The Twin Cities are a wonderful area and the winter does get a bad rap. It’s cold, but people know how to handle it well. Today, we are heading towards 100 degrees in the Twin Cities. Winter seems a distant memory.
Continue ReadingInternet Talk Radio
We may be behind the times here at The Hire Sense, but we keep trying to catch up. I’m sure most readers are familiar with You Tube which is a fantastic site for uploading videos to share. Today I just discovered WSRadio which is internet talk radio. I was shocked at the number of business shows already on the “station” (is that what it is called?). These are completely web-based radio shows – no over-the-air versions that I could find in a cursory scan of the site.
