Bench Building
I was shocked today when I read this sentence in a sales ad”:
Please note that at this time this posting is for purposes of building our talent pool only and there are no current available positions.
That was the 2nd sentence in the ad. This is an interesting approach in this market – the company appears to be building their bench which is an important task. What type of response they receive…well, that I wonder. Nonetheless, I like the approach.

The only positive thing I can say about this is that they’re honest about what they’re doing.
A lot of people I speak with find it maddening when companies come across as though they’re hiring when collecting resumes is all they’re doing.
It brings to mind a question, though, that this could be a waste of money. If they weren’t paying for ads just to get resumes, which they could do other ways for free, perhaps they’d save enough cash to hire someone.
