{"id":2416,"date":"2010-08-31T07:31:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-31T12:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2010\/08\/what-employees-want\/"},"modified":"2010-08-31T07:09:32","modified_gmt":"2010-08-31T12:09:32","slug":"what-employees-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2010\/08\/what-employees-want\/","title":{"rendered":"What Employees Want"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am usually a bit cynical regarding these types of articles.\u00a0 My reasoning is this \u2013 each individual is unique in their motivations and rewards.\u00a0 Attempting to place employees into set categories regarding global characterizations is a stretch.\u00a0 Nonetheless, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inc.com\/guides\/2010\/08\/10-things-employees-want.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+inc%2Fheadlines+%28Inc.com+Headlines%29\" target=\"_blank\">this article from Inc.com<\/a> presents some excellent points and advice for employee engagement.<\/p>\n<p>I do not believe you can overstate this one:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>5. Employees want flexibility.<\/strong> In addition to deciding how they work, the experts say employees also appreciate having a say over when they work. Gunther has, of course, set up a radically flexible schedule for his employees that might not work for every office. But, he says, it has enabled him to find and retain top talent for Meddius. &#8220;We&#8217;ve had people who have taken significant pay cuts to work for us, because at their old job they were told to show up and be at the office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Generation Y is looking for a synergy between their personal lives and their professional lives.&#8221; Set up a flexible vacation policy or a telecommuting policy that enables employees to work from home.
