{"id":1886,"date":"2009-02-06T08:20:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-06T14:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2009\/02\/defeatist-thoughts\/"},"modified":"2009-02-11T05:52:54","modified_gmt":"2009-02-11T11:52:54","slug":"defeatist-thoughts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2009\/02\/defeatist-thoughts\/","title":{"rendered":"Defeatist Thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Isn\u2019t there an old sports axiom that states games are won or lost before you ever take the field?\u00a0 Well, at least some form of that saying.\u00a0 JustSell.com lists a handful of self-defeating thoughts from the sales world (email newsletter \u2013 sorry, no link).<\/p>\n<p>Here they are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Defeatist (accepting, expecting, or being resigned to defeat)<\/li>\n<li>Cynical (contemptuously distrustful of human nature and motives)<\/li>\n<li>Vindictive (seeking revenge)<\/li>\n<li>Blame\/ Fault (who cares? what are we going to do now?)<\/li>\n<li>Wishful (do what you can to influence the deal and keep moving)<\/li>\n<li>Self-pity (get over yourself&#8230; complain less&#8230; especially to yourself)<\/li>\n<li>Worrisome (it won&#8217;t help, costs time, and can drag you down)<\/li>\n<li>Jealous (want it? earn it)<\/li>\n<li>Pre-argumentative (the imaginary argument you have to prepare yourself for the argument that may never happen)<\/li>\n<li>Post-argumentative (the imaginary argument you have where you&#8217;re quicker than you were in the actual argument)<\/li>\n<li>Procrastinatory (if you&#8217;re going to procrastinate, you might as well do something fun instead of thinking about how bad it is that you&#8217;re procrastinating&#8230; dummy)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I find that fourth one (blame\/fault) to be especially common in sales\u2026and quite detrimental.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isn\u2019t there an old sports axiom that states games are won or lost before you ever take the field?\u00a0 Well, at least some form of that saying.\u00a0 JustSell.com lists a handful of self-defeating thoughts from the sales world (email newsletter \u2013 sorry, no link).
