{"id":1591,"date":"2008-05-27T13:34:24","date_gmt":"2008-05-27T18:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/05\/definition-of-insanity-ats-and-sales-hiring\/"},"modified":"2008-05-27T12:25:13","modified_gmt":"2008-05-27T17:25:13","slug":"definition-of-insanity-ats-and-sales-hiring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/05\/definition-of-insanity-ats-and-sales-hiring\/","title":{"rendered":"Definition Of Insanity-ATS And Sales Hiring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Albert Einstein, the definition of insanity is <em>doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results<\/em>.\u00a0 According to a recent post on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.recruitingtrends.com\/online\/news\/945-1.html?CMP=OTC-RSS\">Recruiting Trends<\/a> and a 2007 survey from DDI &amp; Monster regarding corporate hiring systems:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Less than 50% stated that they were satisfied with current selection systems. At least two-thirds expressed dissatisfaction with the efficiency of hiring systems, even with access to automation technology to help organize and track applicant information.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From our experience in the sales world, I would have to say those dissatisfied numbers are much higher when it comes to\u00a0the results of their hiring system or process\u00a0for salespeople.\u00a0 So why not change the system?\u00a0 It could be that they are comfortable with what they are doing or don&#8217;t think that there is a better way.\u00a0 Any answer would only be speculation on my part, but it is quite clear from the survey that what they are doing, for the most part,\u00a0isn&#8217;t working well.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0 the sales world I believe that using an applicant tracking system (ATS)\u00a0 is not the right answer unless\u00a0your sale always goes through an RFP\/RFQ process.\u00a0 Before you go off the deep end, hear me out.\u00a0 In an ATS-structured\u00a0process,\u00a0you are not even considered an applicant until you\u00a0enter your info into the system much\u00a0like a company putting an RFP or RFQ out for bid responses.\u00a0 If the candidate&#8217;s information doesn&#8217;t trip the right keywords, they may be missed all together.<\/p>\n<p>But what if a top notch salesperson\u00a0contacts you directly?\u00a0\u00a0Are they even considered or do you tell them to apply online and you will review their information?\u00a0 Would you want a salesperson that just goes along with the system, i.e. responds to the quote and waits for a call from you?\u00a0 Or are you hiring them to get your value proposition in play with a new prospect?<\/p>\n<p>So why not try something different and increase your likelihood of success?\u00a0 This is the biggest hurdle we face as we move through our unique process with new customers.\u00a0 Clients seem to get uncomfortable or nervous and want to revert back to their old habits.\u00a0 I know that Einstein&#8217;s quote is often quoted, but the next time you are going to hire a salesperson, stop and review your system before you start down that same path.\u00a0 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.selectmetrix.com\/Contact_Us_Main.html\">Call us<\/a> if you are stuck in that rut and not sure how to get out.\u00a0 We would love to help you break the rut.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to Albert Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.\u00a0 According to a recent post on Recruiting Trends and a 2007 survey from DDI &amp; Monster regarding corporate hiring systems: Less than 50% stated that they were satisfied with current selection systems.
