Our Recent History
Lee and
Derrick founded Select Metrix in February 2004 after working
together as the sales selection training duo at BusinessKeys
International/Slattery Sales Group. They were solely
responsible for training companies to use specific hiring
techniques to identify the optimal salesperson for that
company. The work was challenging and the results were
remarkable, but one thing was inconsistent. Companies were not
in the hiring process on a weekly basis so the training was
difficult to retain. “Too often, we had customers who did not
stick to the process and it simply degraded to selling
assessments,” commented Derrick. That approach neutralized too
many critical steps to the system’s success.
“We were asked by
many customers to simply run the entire process for them. They
wanted us to phone screen the candidates, objectively assess
them and then sit through the first face-to-face interview. Unfortunately, we had to turn them down at the time,”
said Lee. This approach would have infringed on
BusinessKeys' sales training since many customers would have been
concerned that assessing existing salespeople, while also
offering selection services, could lead to “poaching” of top
sales talent. Hence, Select Metrix was formed.
The entire process
has been refined and simplified for the customer over the past
year. The initial candidate attraction phase is completely
outsourced to Select Metrix – from writing and placing the ad to phone screening the applicants. The multiple
assessments are now summarized into a 2-page document and face-to-face
interviews are scheduled. By doing the front end work,
Select Metrix is able to guarantee a successful hire and provide
a 120 day warranty. The hiring company's managers are freed
from the time-consuming tasks common to hiring a new
salesperson. Instead, managers invest their time only
interviewing candidates who have been fully assessed as a fit
for the sales position.
Derrick summed
up the new approach, “Select Metrix is able to do the heavy
lifting in the hiring process. We do what we do best – find the
right candidates for the specific sales position. Conversely,
our customers are now freed up to do what they do best – grow
their business.”
