{"id":2208,"date":"2009-12-21T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-21T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2009\/12\/christmas-in-the-sales-world\/"},"modified":"2009-12-21T16:55:16","modified_gmt":"2009-12-21T22:55:16","slug":"christmas-in-the-sales-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2009\/12\/christmas-in-the-sales-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas In The Sales World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eyesonsales.com\/content\/article\/a_b2b_sales_christmas_carol_twas_the_end_of_the_quarter\/\" target=\"_blank\">EyeOnSales.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Twas the end of the quarter, with my Blackberry dead<br \/>\nNot a prospect was stirring, my dashboard pure red.<br \/>\nThe managers were wringing their hands with despair,<br \/>\nWith thoughts of their bonuses vanishing into thin air.<\/p>\n<p>The VP of sales sat awake in her bed,<br \/>\nWhile visions of mortgages danced in her head.<br \/>\nAnd the CFO in his office, and I on a plane,<br \/>\nWere bracing ourselves for the oncoming pain.<\/p>\n<p>When there in my Inbox appeared a new subject line,<br \/>\nI sprang from the seat with a feeling divine.<br \/>\n\u201cReconsidering Vendors \u2013 You\u2019re Still in the Race\u201d,<br \/>\nA 400-user license was still mine to chase!<\/p>\n<p>The head of the project had reopened bids<br \/>\nThe original victor had costs they had hid.<br \/>\nPlease be there on Friday to talk with the team,<br \/>\nMy value proposition had found new esteem.<\/p>\n<p>With well-rehearsed banter, and names memorized<br \/>\nInternal champions gave credence in my quest for the prize.<br \/>\nMy travel all set, accommodations in place,<br \/>\nI practiced and researched, all to meet face-to-face!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now HR! now, Sales Group! now, Accounting and IT!<br \/>\nOn, Biz Dev! on, Admin! on Marketing and EVP\u2019s!<br \/>\nFrom clerks in the mailroom to the C-Level suite!<br \/>\nI have a solution, your needs it all meets!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As handshakes were tendered and details were smoothed,<br \/>\nA lone IT director suddenly came into his groove.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s not an on-premise, I don\u2019t know if I trust,<br \/>\nSecurity is foremost, an end-all, a must!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then, in a flash, my hopes came to rest<br \/>\nOn a man with a Linux logo sewn on his chest.<br \/>\n\u201cLet me talk to your guys,\u201d he said with stern voice<br \/>\n\u201cI have to say SaaS is never my first choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The meeting then ended without pen put to paper,<br \/>\nI\u2019d have to sit tight, waiting as my hopes tapered .<br \/>\nTalking in 1\u2019s and 0\u2019s and data encryption,<br \/>\nThe IT director held up the decision.<\/p>\n<p>His questions were cutting, his mind sharp and agile!<br \/>\nHe wanted the details, how robust? how fragile?<br \/>\nHis stream of questions were insistent and loud,<br \/>\nAs our CTO talked proxies, permissions and clouds.<\/p>\n<p>The stub of a pencil held tight in his teeth,<br \/>\nHe looked at me sideways and to my relief<br \/>\nBroke into a smile and announced \u201cI\u2019m convinced\u201d,<br \/>\nYour platform meets all our base requirements!<\/p>\n<p>An agreement was drawn up, signed the next day,<br \/>\nAnd with a few pen strokes the quarter was saved!<br \/>\nA good sleep I had on my direct flight back,<br \/>\nOn Monday the office gathered \u2018round in a pack.<\/p>\n<p>They asked \u201cHow did you do it?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWho did you know?\u201d,<br \/>\nMy secret was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.landslide.com\">Landslide<\/a> and its sales process flow!<br \/>\nAnd then I heard the CEO\u2019s assistant,<br \/>\n\u201cMr. Brown wants to see you, right this instant!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I received a promotion, right on the spot,<br \/>\nAnd two weeks PTO for the business I brought.<br \/>\nI decided to vacation well south of the border,<br \/>\n&#8220;Happy selling to all, and to all a good quarter!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is from EyeOnSales.com: Twas the end of the quarter, with my Blackberry dead Not a prospect was stirring, my dashboard pure red.
