{"id":1877,"date":"2009-01-30T08:18:58","date_gmt":"2009-01-30T14:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/?p=1877"},"modified":"2009-01-30T06:34:32","modified_gmt":"2009-01-30T12:34:32","slug":"profitable-pockets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2009\/01\/profitable-pockets\/","title":{"rendered":"Profitable Pockets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m wrapping up my trip this week in Philadelphia and I am finding a consistent theme &#8211; company revenues are down but there are specific niches, or pockets that each company has maintained.\u00a0 Some have even grown in these areas.\u00a0 Businesses will survive this economy by leveraging their strong markets (maybe not their <em>core<\/em> markets).<\/p>\n<p>I have consistently heard that medical, aerospace and some consumer electronics markets are still relatively strong.\u00a0 Salespeople should be in close contact with their customers right now to identify these pockets and leverage them in their sales activities.\u00a0 Failure to take this initiative could be a truly career-limiting move.<\/p>\n<p>Another consistent theme I have encountered this week is the need for efficiency.\u00a0 Companies are fiscally tight right now, but they are looking for opportunities to improve their product or service offering.\u00a0 Whatever product or service you sell, I would recommend positioning it as a way to improve an existing process, service, product, etc.\u00a0 This approach still sells in this economy.\u00a0 Companies are aware of cost reduction right now even if it requires an initial investment.\u00a0 I would strongly recommend this approach to any salesperson right now, but make sure they are able to accurately illustrate the savings.\u00a0 No marketing spin here &#8211; real world examples and believable figures.<\/p>\n<p>Those are just a couple of items I have noticed this week on the East coast.\u00a0 Business is still occurring so salespeople need to keep turning over those rocks&#8230;deals are out there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m wrapping up my trip this week in Philadelphia and I am finding a consistent theme &#8211; company revenues are down but there are specific niches, or pockets that each company has maintained.\u00a0 Some have even grown in these areas.\u00a0 Businesses will survive this economy by leveraging their strong markets (maybe not their core markets).
