{"id":1642,"date":"2008-07-03T09:30:06","date_gmt":"2008-07-03T14:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/07\/gas-prices-leading-to-a-sea-change\/"},"modified":"2008-07-03T09:25:14","modified_gmt":"2008-07-03T14:25:14","slug":"gas-prices-leading-to-a-sea-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/07\/gas-prices-leading-to-a-sea-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Gas Prices Leading To A Sea Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.workforce.com\/section\/00\/article\/25\/61\/46.php\">Workforce Management<\/a> article the buzz at the SHRM conference\u00a0inolved\u00a0rising gas prices and the wide-ranging effects it is having.\u00a0 In fact, the conference\u2019s opening press event highlighted its recent poll showing how companies are trying to\u00a0assist their workers.\u00a0 The two most noted solutions were flexible schedules and telecommuting.\u00a0 Some of the other ways they are helping are four-day weeks, gas cards and car-pooling.<\/p>\n<p>John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray &amp; Christmas made a great comment (my bold):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>These are more than short-term fixes, Challenger says. They are the beginning of a revolution in the office that will result in productivity being the central value of work, rather the number of hours logged by employees. They also dovetail with other trends like globalization and a 24-hour view of the workday that accommodates all time zones\u2014Asia, Europe and the United States.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe idea of a set workday or a five-day workweek doesn\u2019t make sense,\u201d Challenger says. <strong>\u201cIt\u2019s not about the time you put in.
