{"id":1515,"date":"2008-04-14T16:10:30","date_gmt":"2008-04-14T21:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/04\/scratch-and-sniff-resumes\/"},"modified":"2008-04-14T15:25:07","modified_gmt":"2008-04-14T20:25:07","slug":"scratch-and-sniff-resumes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/selectmetrix.com\/blogs\/2008\/04\/scratch-and-sniff-resumes\/","title":{"rendered":"Scratch And Sniff Resumes?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First off, the word &#8220;wacky&#8221; should not be used in any form of writing.\u00a0 Second, this Yahoo Hot Jobs article &#8211; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/hotjobs.yahoo.com\/career-articles-wacky_job_seeker_stunts-362\">Wacky Job-Seeker Stunts<\/a> &#8211; lists some . . . zany gimmicks for attempting to land a marketing\/advertising position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Puts up posters of himself in your company parking lot.<\/li>\n<li>Attaches pineapple scratch-and-sniff stickers to his resume.<\/li>\n<li>Announces his candidacy with a singing telegram.<\/li>\n<li>Sends lottery tickets with her resume.<\/li>\n<li>Rents a billboard that you can see from your office to list his qualifications.<\/li>\n<li>Bakes cookies with icing to write several reasons why she should be hired.<\/li>\n<li>Delivers pre-paid Chinese food, including a fortune cookie with his name and number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yeah, it doesn&#8217;t work (emphasis mine):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Less than half of the executives surveyed &#8212; 46% in advertising and 34% in marketing &#8212; said they might consider an applicant with a gimmicky resume, and <strong>only 2% of marketing execs and 8% of ad execs said gimmicks would help a candidate get hired<\/strong>.
